Liveaboards depart Labuan Bajo year-round, but conditions are not equal. The dry season runs roughly May–October with calm seas and 20–30 m dive visibility; the wet season, roughly November–April, brings rain, rougher crossings — November to March most of all — and visibility closer to 10–20 m. Ranges are compiled from published Komodo season and dive-condition guides; any single week can beat or trail its month. Genuine weather cancellations are uncommon in the dry season — when the harbormaster does hold departures, crews rebook your timed Siora park sessions as the schedule shifts.
Reading the Calendar Like the Port Desk
If comfort is the priority
Book May through September. Crossings from the Labuan Bajo waterfront are at their calmest, visibility is at its best, and open-trip departures run at full frequency. July–August cabins at the published US$250-per-night open-trip rate sell out furthest ahead — book early rather than hoping for gaps.
If mantas are the priority
December through April is the reported peak at Karang Makassar, even though sightings happen in every month. The trade-off is wet-season seas: build a buffer day either side of the cruise and let the crew shuffle sessions if weather moves.
If value and quiet are the priority
April and October–early November are the shoulders: fewer boats at Padar, softer demand for cabins, and conditions usually closer to dry-season than wet.
